The One School for All (SSUS) campaign has attracted a lot of publicity.
For more than 50 years, if there is ever a ‘universal unity’ acrossed the multiracial and multiracists Malaysia. It would have been so. WHY isn’t that so????? Why cant we see through our skin colours and voice accents and unite as one Malaysia. ….the answer is…..as long as our oor arrr emmm…. SOCCER TEAM has not revived to the old glory….there is no unity in Malaysia.

Malays live island-wide and can very easily get along with the other communities to live in peace and harmony. The Malays are also noted for their spiritual abilities. In fact, the nature of the Malay psyche is peace, which is propounded by their religion, Islam.

I see how the people who make my drinks in Starbucks and Coffee Bean are almost always Malay and my heart still sinks. I see them reaching over the counters accepting cash or credit cards from the yuppies in fancy suits and I notice how they are almost never Malay.

An interesting piece about Malaysia’s attempt to be the champion of the Malay world, even though Malay is an ethnic grouping and not a race, except in Bolehland where its Constitution specifies what a Malay should be, including being a Muslim.

Reading Saya Pun Melayu my mind went back to yesteryears in 60ies when I was in STARThe harmonious environment of rural Malay students… I remember Chegu Roslan Ahmad teaching us Malay, sometimes talk in English, And Mr Lee teaching English giving examples of poor rural Malay families. My mind flies to late 50ies, when I was in Darjah Enam. Those years, I bought exercise books from PGGMB shop.

He never took up the challenge but kept hounding me for my ‘Mat Salleh’ ways and even called me Mr. Chopin–Choping for liking classical music. Little did he know about Chopin or classical music. Omar often raps about his Malaysian heritage, especially about the challenges of coming from a mixed background, and trying to reconcile and balance his Australian and Malaysian sides.

The further I step out of my Malayness, the more I appreciate my heritage and culture. I don’t wish to turn into a ‘fake’ blondie (Asian with dyed blonde hair who tries to behave Western by clubbing and getting ‘pissed, and thinks they’re soo ‘open-minded’, but it really just goes to show how ’shallow-minded they are).

* Language Dilema – True the major impediment of the success for Malay students in both subjects is largely came from the inability to absorb Maths & Science lessons due to the language barrier.
* The quality of teaching method for the English subjects, Maths & Science have also contributed to this factor.
* The option to answer in Bahasa had complicate further the issue. How could a person learn a subject in English and take the examination in another language?

Chers frères et mes sœurs, malais, ne vivent pas dans un espace étroit. Essayez de comprendre, aucune nation ne peut progresser si elles ne comprennent que la langue de leur langue maternelle. Être un véritable malaise ne signifie pas que vous parlez tous les Malais, mais d’un vrai malaise, c’est comprendre la nécessité d’apprendre d’autres langues. Maîtrise de la langue universelle, l’anglais est une question de neccesity pour les Malais d’interagir avec d’autres races, à lire et à acquérir des connaissances de l’évolution des domaines tels que la science, la technologie, les mathématiques, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
